Yes-2-Know Today. Our first annual Youth Empowerment Summit was a huge success and none of this would be possible without the organizational skills of Mme. Abell and Ms. Bridal, the dedication of Corporal Scott Hilderley and Teresa Hilderley, generous financial support of our PAC, Municipality of Sooke, YAG Grant (thank you to student super-grant writer Cassidy C.) Merci to our local volunteers who ran Spark Zone events: SEAPARC, Sooke Fall Fair and EMCS Leadership students.

Thank you to the students/families for supporting our Scholastic Book Fair. Our next one is in June.

Congratulations to our Junior Boys’ Volleyball Team who finished off their successful season on Thursday at Monterey Middle school. Strong leadership skills from the grade seven boys combined with the strength of the grade six boys was the key to their success as a team. We are proud of how they represented the Journey Spirit by: accepting the challenge, playing and having fun and reaching for the stars (with some really good blocks)!

Monday

Field Trip – Ms. Syme & Mr. Dunbar’s classes are traveling by school bus to watch an IMAX film and watch and listen to how our elected officials run our province at the Legislature during question period today.

Grade 6 Astronomy Event – tonight at 7:30 pm Sid Sidhu and other volunteers from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (School Telescope Program) will host a night sky viewing at Journey Middle School. This is weather dependent, and we will have to decide at noon today whether we will be able to see the night sky and hold this event. This is open to grade 6 classes only and because of limited volunteers and telescopes students must sign up ahead of time. Parents and/or guardians must accompany their child to this event. Forms must be handed in to your child’s classroom teacher. Child Minding will be available for younger siblings inside the school. Please phone the school to reserve a space(s) Sandy Hull 250-642-5881.

Presentation – Today Ms. Maragh & Ms. Kilpatrick’s classes will be part of an Ocean Networks Canada presentation. Especially fitting considering we live on an island in the Pacific Ocean.
