Home / School News / This Week @ Journey May 1-5

Congratulations to all our musical talent here at Journey. Our Rockin’ Roll singers performed with Mr. Rehman and Mr. Hopkins this weekend at the Rotary Club Auction and delighted the crowd. This week our bands competed in the Regional Band String Festival, under the direction of Ms. Bjorklund, with the following results:

  • 4 bands performed–4 received superior rating and 4 invitations to the Nationals in Vancouver in 2018
  • 2 string ensembles performed–2 received excellent plus and 2 invitations to the Nationals in May 2018
  • the adjudicator came to Journey Middle School and was pleased to see that music was flourishing in Sooke.  In 2003 when the adjudicator had looked at Sooke, she was surprised to see that NO band or strings programs existed there at that time.  She was pleased to see the change.
  • 450,000 students compete to obtain invitations to the Nationals and 7000-8000 are asked.
  • Sooke schools had the MOST invitations to the Nationals of all the schools on Vancouver Island

Thanks to all who helped make this happen–teachers, conductors, parents, administration and students.  When we pull together, great things can happen.

Now we will look forward to Year end concerts at Elementary schools, Ayre Manor, and Journey.  Students will be involved in performing at the Rotary Auction, for Music Monday and for the kick-off for Tour de Rock at EMCS on Friday.
