Great Milne’s Landing Food Fight is in full swing. Mr. Elm’s class is unofficially claiming bragging rights with a 3.2307 items per student but we’ve got it on good authority that other classes are hiding their items so he doesn’t win again this year! Each year schools in the Milne’s Landing Family of Schools do our part to fight hunger at this time of year. Each class collects non-perishable food items and the contest ends on Friday. We calculate the winning school by dividing the number of donations by the number of students in each school. The biggest winner is the Sooke Food Bank!

Hot Chocolate by the fire – Students and staff enjoyed a cup of warm chocolate on Friday by our fire pit. We were joined by our two of the assistant-superintendents in our District, Mr. David Strange and Ms. Stephanie Hedley-Smith. Our students were appreciative and polite, and offered the feedback that we should do it again soon!

Big thank you to all staff and parents who are making coding happen at Journey. From parents making room for robotics and coding in their kids’ already busy schedules, to classroom teachers trying new things in class, supervising after school, and allowing students to participate during the hackathon, and the many hours of prepping and implementation for the hour of code. We are making a school wide movement toward embracing and encouraging coding for everyone.  It’s exciting to be a part of it!

Artwork Needed – Does your child have a drawing they would like to see the local Sooke News Mirror? Have them drop it off in the office by Thursday (don’t forget to put your name on it).

Staff update – Welcome to Stephanie Croft who will be teaching .6 with Ms. Horton until Mme. Larsen’s return. Stephanie recently completed her practicum at EMCS. Parents may recognize her from her practicum at Journey last year.  So long for now to Mrs. Martin (formerly Clarke) who is now off on maternity leave.  We wish her well  on her journey to becoming a new mother.
